They entered the ministry early on in their marriage as Youth Pastors at a church in Mt. View all the while taking in dozens of kids into their home as foster parents. Years later, they became Youth Pastors again at Anchorage City Church which is when they felt the call to plant a church in Downtown Anchorage.

Kris is an Elder and Pastor for Preaching & Vision. He's also involved in Beacon Hill and Prison Ministry. Charity serves in Women's Ministry as well as other areas as assigned and is President of Beacon Hill.

What Kris & Charity love most about Heart of the City is the people... a beautifully unique demographic ranging from the recovering heroin addict to the CEO... as well as the vulnerability and authenticity of this community.

Jesse & Kristal were both born and raised (mostly) in Alaska. After some time spent down in the lower 48 (Jesse in the Navy, and Kristal in college), they both decided there is no place like Alaska and returned home to Anchorage. They married in Spring of 2010 and have two incredible children.

When not controlling airplanes as an Air Traffic Controller, Jesse serves as an Elder and Executive Pastor at Heart of the City. He has a hand in most things happening at the church but mostly focuses on missions and developing the website and app. Kristal helps lead the HOTC Kids Ministry, and dabbles in a few admin related items. Serving at Heart of the City is an incredible joy for them and they are so thankful to be a part of what God is doing through this church.

What Jesse & Kristal love most about Heart of the City is that the music is always great, the preaching is always phenomenal, and the people who attend are always a joy to be around. - "It's truly a place where anyone and everyone can feel welcome."

Jesse's favorite dessert: Chocolate brownie ice cream with cherry pie filling on top.
Jesse's favorite verse: "You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore." Psalms 16:11.

Matt & Callan are affectionately known at HOTC as the "tattooed people." Matt was born and raised in San Gabriel, a city in Los Angeles County, California and has lived in Alaska since February 2006. Callan was born and raised on Kodiak Island and after attempting to move out of state (MN & AZ) she just couldn't stay away from the beauty of Alaska. Matt & Callan have been married since Spring 2013 and are the proud parents of Stella the American bulldog.

Matt & Callan do many things at HOTC and have always been incredibly generous with what they've been given by God. Matt is on staff as the Church Director and oversees everything that goes on at the church. He also leads Difference Makers men's ministry. Callan helps lead women's ministry, serves in HOTC Kids, and tends the Fizz Bar during community events.

What Matt & Callan love most about HOTC is the location and the mission. They love how God has provided us the ability to reach people and love them where they're at. They love seeing people who had stopped going to church come back to the Lord because of how HOTC ministers to them. They especially love seeing the growth in people's hearts and lives!

Matt's favorite dessert: Double layer yellow cake with chocolate frosting
Matt's favorite verse: "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Callan's favorite dessert: Slow-cooked chocolate pudding, skin on top, and whipped cream
Callan's favorite verse: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6

Derek was born and raised in Kenny Lake, Alaska (which obviously makes him more Alaskan than anyone else on the Leadership Team). He lived there until he graduated high school, at which point he moved to Australia and completed the three year program at Hillsong International Leadership College.

Derek is the Creative Director here at HOTC and oversees all things audio & visual. He also keeps things fresh and in order as the Church Administrator.

What Derek loves most about HOTC is that we have a Christ-centered, gospel-preaching, all-inclusive church, in which people from so many demographics have found and will continue to find community and a sense of home.

Derek's favorite dessert: Crème brûlée
Derek's favorite verse: "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control." - 2 Timothy 1:7

Preacher

E-Mail:
Facebook: lonnie.ridgeway.5
Facebook: amanda.versteegridgeway
Twitter: @amandaversteeg
Instagram: @lonnie_ridgeway

Lonnie & Mandee are from two very different parts of Alaska. Lonnie was born and raised in Anchorage and Mandee was born and raised in a small town in the panhandle of Alaska called Petersburg. They've been married since Fall 2011 and are the proud parents of one very fun and energetic child.

What Lonnie & Mandee love most about HOTC is the people - "The people are real and genuine and open to talking about where they are in their walk with God. As simple as that sounds, people have a hard time opening up to others and being real with life, especially in a church. There are people who have hijacked what a Christian should look like and have painted a warped picture of what Christianity is supposed to be. Often times churches are filled with broken people trying to walk in those shoes. At Heart of the City, it's evident, starting from the Lead Pastor to the people who volunteer, that the church is full of people who understand they are broken without God." They also like the fact that we have people from different walks of life and the blended culture of love and truth that facilities an environment where everyone is welcome; a place to find Real People Loving God and inspiring others in their journey.

Lonnie's favorite dessert: Hot apple pie with vanilla caramel ice cream on top
Lonnie's favorite verse: "The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted; to proclaim liberty to the captives; and the opening of the prison to those who are bound." - Isaiah 61:1
Mandee's favorite dessert: Raspberry sorbet
Mandee's favorite verses: "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10 & "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." - Romans 12:12

Dena brings years of experience and wisdom to HOTC as the Facilitator of our Fight Club Recovery Group.  She and her awesome co-facilitator, Ryan Skiff, are helping others fight their addictions (all kinds) for their joy in Christ.  She's also made herself available for individual addiction consultation and counseling, as requested by individuals.

What Dena loves most about HOTC is the loving, accepting, encouraging atmosphere of real people, moving towards a closer relationship with Christ.

Dena's favorite dessert: A fresh ripe, juicy peach (not in AK), and of course, anything chocolate - especially dark chocolate carmel w/sea salt. Yum.

Recovery Group Leader

Ryan & Erica were both born and raised in Rapid City, SD, and have been married since the summer of 2013. Like many non-Alaskans, they fell in love with Alaska, and after their 2nd trip visiting, Ryan said that "this is where it's at," and they've been here ever since.

Ryan co-leads HOTC Fight Club with Dena Wiggins, where they are helping others fight their addictions (of all kinds) for their joy in Christ. He has a true passion for helping those struggling with addiction. Ryan and Erica also serve in the nursery, and are some of the most kind and wonderful people you will ever meet.

The first time attending HOTC, the Skiff's heard the mission statement, "Real people enjoying God," and felt they didn't have to fake it to be loved or feel apart of the church. With a pastor like Kris, they feel well led and are willing to follow him into the battle! They feel the love radiating in the church so much so that it is spilling out. They truly enjoy making new relationships within the Church and discipling inside and outside the Church.

Ryan's favorite dessert: anything his wife is baking at that moment!
Ryan's favorite verse: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. - 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
Erica's favorite dessert: Momma's Bibingka Rice Cake.
Erica's favorite verse: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? - Psalms 27:1 and "Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. - Psalm 62:1

Ralph's favorite dessert: Ube ice cream.
Ralph's favorite verse: "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." - Galatians 2:20

Marriage Counselors

E-Mail:
E-Mail: eve@heartofthecityak.com
Facebook: eve.cooper.16

Sam & Eve, plus their three girls, make up some of the finest people you'll find at HOTC. Sam is originally from Hemet, CA and was originally stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Air Force in November 2004. In just a few short years, the State (and his Beloved) had won his heart and were the catalysts to transition to the AK Air National Guard in November 2007. Eve is from Homestead, FL and has lived in Alaska since 1993. They met at a small group through Anchorage City Church and have been married since July 2007.

Sam has a gift for teaching and spiritual insight which are both exercised by faith to benefit the church and it's leadership in many ways. He also brews up some killer kombucha for the Fizz Bar. Eve serves on the check-in team for HOTC Kids and also helps lead the Women's Ministry as well as seasonal events such as our Winter Bazaar.

What Sam & Eve love most about HOTC is the focus on the gospel - "That God has done for us what we are incapable of doing for ourselves and reconciled all people to Himself. We love because He first loved us. We understand that all things are provided by Him for us and for our highest joy. Since we acknowledge that we haven't done anything for this gift, there is a genuine pursuit and desire to share it with all people. It is because of this focus that there is a true sense of community and belonging that people from all walks of life and backgrounds experience here."

Sam's favorite dessert: Berry crisp wth vanilla ice cream. Or just an aged Tawny Port!
Sam's favorite verse: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?" - Matthew 7:7-11
Eve's favorite dessert: pineapple upside down cake (without cherries)
Eve's favorite verse: "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer's; he makes me tread on my high places." - Habakkuk 3:18-19

What Moses loves most about Heart of the City is the opportunity to cultivate authentic relationships that are centered on the Gospel. "You get inspired by the people who attend HOTC because they are not afraid to tell their story, you get to witness first hand what heart transformation looks like."

Moses's favorite dessert: Stapler in jello...or a Mud Pie Mojo from Cold Stone.
Moses's favorite verse: "He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30.

Jon was born in Torrance, California. He grew up and stayed in the Philippines until he graduated college with a Bachelors of Science in Architecture. After graduating, he moved to Singapore where he worked for 2 years as an Architectural Executive. His experience in Singapore not only made him grow as a man of his profession but also helped strengthen his faith. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 2014 to be with his family. After 2 years of hard work and intense testing, he accomplished his childhood dream and is now a Registered Architect.

Jon is leading our young adults group called Unchained. He is passionate about reaching people in that age because that was when he proclaimed Jesus as His Lord and savior. He believes that that’s a crucial stage when people make decisions that could affect the course of their life.

Jon's favorite dessert: Jon is a very simple man. He goes to Cold Stone. He orders a “Like it!” size “Coffee Lovers Only”. Then, he substitutes the Heath bars for Kitkat bars and adds waffle bits. Easy!
Jon's favorite verse: But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
